A quick and easy guide to using feeding bowls and equipment
A birthing tub at home can provide a safe, relaxed and pain-relieving birth experience.
Here you will find an easy step-by-step guide to setting up, filling and cleaning the tub.
1. What you need
All necessary equipment is included if you rent from Enblidstart (line, hoses, pumps, strainer, cover, manual and patch kit).
Have you rented additional equipment such as: lid , thermometer , heating element and salt , you are even better covered.
Tip:
– Keep everything together.
– Check how long hoses you need.
– Check if the water connection fits your faucet.
– How much hot water do you have?
– Avoid sharp objects under the feeding trough.
– Let the tub stand at room temperature for 24 hours before inflating.
– Please ensure a room temperature of 22–24 degrees during the birth.
2. Inflate the tub (about 10 minutes)
Location:
Place the feeding tub in a location where the filling hose can reach from the bath tap or faucet (recommended) and where the emptying hose can reach a drain or sink. There must also be access to power for the water and air pump.
Inflation:
Bottom and seat if applicable: Use pointed nozzle (approx. 2 min).
Sides: Use larger nozzles to fill the tub about 50% with air (approx. 3 min).
Lines:
Unpack the liner and place it on the feeding tank. Lift up the liner and "push" the air between the tank and the liner out. If necessary, fill the tank with water so that the water "pushes" the air out on its own. Then fill the last of the air into the feeding tank.
The tub should be firm, but not too hard (be careful not to overfill with air, as this can lead to a puncture).
Tip:
Take a picture of the folded tub so it is easier to pack it back up properly.
3. Fill the tub with water
– Connect the hose to the tap.
- Fill the tub with water (25-45 min). Leave some space for heating if you have a small container.
- Use thermometer: 35-38 degrees.
- If necessary, secure the hose with masking tape so that it stays where it should (real tape sticks to the tub and is difficult to remove).
Tip:
Turn up the heat in your hot water tank well in advance so that you get the most hot water possible if you do not have large amounts of hot water.
4. Keep the water warm
– Use a lid to retain heat.
- Check the temperature continuously.
- Refill with hot water as needed. Empty some of the water manually, e.g. with a pot, and either fill with more water using the hose (avoid the hose touching the water) or with boiling water in pots.
5. While the tub is filling, you can:
– Dim the lighting.
– Light candles, scented candles or aroma diffusers.
– Put on relaxing music.
– Prepare snacks and drinks.
– Lie down, Ve Balls , Zen ring , heating pad , yoga ball , pain relief set , Ve and Zen set , Tenscare .
6. Emptying and cleaning (50-80 min)
Emptying 30-50 min)
- Use a fine mesh strainer to remove impurities in the water to avoid clogging the pump.
- Connect one end of the hose to the pump.
- Place the pump in the water and the hose to drain.
- Plug in and let the pump do its job. When the pump starts making noise, tip the tub to get the last of the water.
Cleaning (20-30 minutes)
– Remove the liner and pour the remaining contents down the drain. Tie a knot in the liner and throw it away.
- Wipe the tub with a wet cloth with unscented soap.
– Wipe the tub with a dry cloth.
– Rinse hoses and clean the pump – let it dry completely.
See the full cleaning guide here.
Packing (Approx. 10 min)
Open the valves and use the pump's deflate function:
– Suck the air out of the sides, then the bottom and possibly the seat.
– Fold and pack everything together.
Really good birth!
